Uploading your PDF

To order a newspaper, you'll need to upload a print-ready PDF. Here's what file format to use, how our PDF checker works and what to do if you run into issues.

How do I upload a PDF?

When you're ready to order, sign in to your account, then click the 'Upload your PDF' button on the top right.

What file format should I upload?

Upload one PDF for each order, containing pages in reading order (not spreads).

What happens when I upload a PDF?

When you upload your PDF to your Newspaper Club account, our PDF checker will check it automatically and tell you about anything that would stop your PDF from being printed. It will also warn about some things that might affect the print quality, like low-resolution images. It cannot detect typos or design errors, so always double-check your PDF before submitting it for printing.

When I press the PDF upload button, nothing happens

Check your browser version is up to date, or try another browser. This should fix the issue – if not, please contact us.

What does the PDF checker review?

Our PDF checker will automatically review the following:

Essential

  • Correct page size
  • Clear margins on tabloids and broadsheets
  • Correct number of pages
  • Fonts are embedded

Recommended

  • Minimum 150dpi image resolution
  • Transparencies are flattened
  • File uses CMYK, not RGB or spot colours
  • No registration black

Can I place an order if my file has errors?

Our PDF checker will tell you if there are errors that will prevent us from printing your newspaper. Check the troubleshooting guide and if you're still having problems, contact us. We can still print your newspaper if any of the warnings on the ‘Recommended’ list above come up.

There is artwork in the margins, but I don’t care if it gets trimmed off. Can you print my newspaper?

No, we need the margins on tabloids and broadsheets to be completely clear.

I have low-resolution images. Can you print my newspaper?

Yes, low-resolution images will not stop us from printing your newspaper. Select ‘View report’ next to the newspaper in your account and check the errors again.

My PDF passed the checks but there is a message saying ‘Unable to print’. What should I do?

Click on ‘View report’ and see if there are any errors. If you need more help just leave the PDF in your account and contact us.

Why does my preview look blurry?

The preview in your account is just a rendering to help you check things like page order and layout. We will print directly from the PDF you’ve uploaded. To get the most accurate sense of image quality and text size before printing, open your PDF on screen and zoom in to 100%.
