Setting up your document
To print your newspaper, create one PDF file and upload it to your Newspaper Club account to order.
How do I set up my document?
Use design software like InDesign or Canva to make make a document with pages in reading order.
Read more about how to design your newspaper with Canva.
Are templates available?
Yes, we have free templates for InDesign and Canva. You can find them on our templates page.
Can I make my artwork full bleed?
Only on minis and midis:
- Check the artwork guidelines and use the correct page size and margins
- Margins on tabloids and broadsheets must be totally clear – no artwork, no page numbers, no background colours
- Minis and midis can be full bleed – your PDF must have 5mm bleed around the outside (3 sides) of each spread
Can I print spreads or posters?
You can print spreads on all sizes except traditional broadsheets.
You can print posters on tabloids and digital broadsheets – minis are stapled so posters can't easily be pulled out.
Do I add crop marks?
No, don't add crop marks when exporting your PDF.
What's the recommended image resolution?
Image resolution between 150–300dpi is ideal for newspaper printing.
Lower resolution images (under 150dpi) may be pixellated in print.
Higher resolution images (over 300dpi) can make files slow to upload.
Can I use transparencies?
If possible, flatten any transparencies and effects as they may not print as they appear in the PDF. Exporting your file as PDF/X-1a:2001 will do this for you. Learn more in our export guide.
Should I use CMYK or RGB?
RGB images will be automatically converted to CMYK before printing.
Spot colours will be converted to CMYK before printing.
What setting do I use to export my file?
Export as PDF/X-1a:2001 — if possible, use that preset. This creates the simplest kind of PDF.
For step-by-step instructions, see our export guide.
