Pages, spreads and sheets

What is a page?

Here's what we mean by a page, spread and sheet.

How many pages can I print?

The number of pages depends on the type of newspaper you're printing:

Mini and tabloid: up to 64 pages

Digital broadsheet: up to 40 pages

Traditional broadsheet: up to 20 pages

Page count guidelines:

  • Tabloids and digital broadsheets must have a page count that's a multiple of 4
  • Minis should be a multiple of 8, with a minimum of 16 pages
  • Traditional broadsheets can have a page count in multiples of 2

Should my PDF be pages or spreads?

Your PDF should be exported as single pages, not spreads.

If you want to check how your spreads will look, open your PDF in a reader like Acrobat, Preview or Microsoft Edge and switch to a "2-page view" (sometimes called facing pages). This gives you a better sense of how content flows across the fold.

Do the front and back covers count as pages?

Yes, the front and back cover are included in your total page count. Page 1 is always the front cover, and the last page in your PDF is the back cover.

Your newspaper will print in the same order as your PDF. For example:
In an 8-page newspaper, pages 1 and 8 are the covers
In a 12-page newspaper, pages 1 and 12 are the covers

How can a traditional broadsheet have 2 or 6 pages?

Traditional broadsheets are the only format that can include half sheets. A half sheet adds 2 extra pages and fits into the centre of your newspaper. You can also print a 2-page broadsheet, which is just one half sheet folded in half.

I want to print pull-out posters. How should I set up my PDF?

Whatever you want to print, our system will print your newspaper in left-to-right reading order. You should make a dummy version and compare the page order and orientation with your PDF to make sure it will print as you expect.
